Any open leave requests in EWS that are dated in the past are not counted on the manager's approval screen

Even if a leave request from an employee is still open in EWS, if it is dated prior to the current date, it isn't included in the open items count in the drop down list on the manager's Approve Leave Request screen.  This is the count that shows next to the employee's name.  Even if we edit the date on that screen to bring in past requests, those items that are still open don't get included in the count in that drop down list.  Did this feature change with a recent release?
